Match the venue to the plan
Plan an alcohol-free outing. Lesson 1, 12 min.
Start with the plan. Then choose the venue type.
The plan decides the type
- A night out: an alcohol-free bar. These include zero-proof cocktail bars, kava bars and kombucha bars.
- Drinks to take home: a non-alcoholic bottle shop. It sells alcohol-free beer, wine and spirits to take away. This suits a gathering at home.
- Dinner: a zero-proof restaurant, where the drinks list is alcohol-free. The guides dated 2026-10-20 say the site lists none yet, so you may need to search further.
- A one-off event: a sober event series. It runs on a schedule, not at a fixed venue. The same guides say the site lists none yet.
Read the description, not only the category
Some venues do more than one thing. These examples are as the site read them on 2026-10-20. In Good Spirits in Chicago is listed as a bottle shop, and its own site calls it a non-alcoholic bottle shop, bar and community space. DRYKKIR in Munich is listed as a bottle shop, and the site guide says it offers tastings and a lounge.
Use the place and the category
Browse by country, then region, then city. Then open the category that fits the plan. Most cities on the site have one listing, so compare what the listing says with what the venue's own site says today.
Think about the room
Venues differ in feel. As read on 2026-10-20, Raven Records in London is a heavy-metal record shop whose bar serves only 0.0% ABV drinks. Hinterland in Manchester is a vegan cafe in the basement of the Manchester Buddhist Centre. The description helps you choose a room that suits the group.
Food
As read on 2026-10-20, some venues have a kitchen, for example Hinterland in Manchester and Ocean Beach Cafe in San Francisco. A listing shows food when the source states it. If the group needs a meal, confirm it with the venue.
