Trace a listing to its source
Evaluate alcohol-free venue listings and sources. Lesson 1, 15 min.
Every listing on Sober Bars comes from one of two sources. Know which one before you rely on a fact.
Hand-checked venue websites
The site added these rows by hand. A venue goes in only if its own website says that it serves no alcohol. The source link is the venue page that the site used. The address, phone and hours come from the same site, where the venue published them.
OpenStreetMap
These rows come from OpenStreetMap. The site looked for venues tagged alcohol=no or drink:alcohol=no, and it keeps the tags as mapped. The source link is the OpenStreetMap page for that venue. The kava bars and the kombucha bar on the site come from this source.
Read dates and review status
The site read its sources on 2026-10-20. The guides say the venues have not yet reviewed what the site recorded. A fact on a listing is the fact as read on that date.
Gaps on purpose
The site leaves a field empty rather than guess. Coordinates that no public map record gave stay empty. Complex OpenStreetMap opening hours, for example a close after midnight, stay empty rather than rewritten. A blank field is not evidence that the venue lacks something.
What to do with this
For each fact you will rely on, note its source and the read date. Then check the fact against the venue's own site today.
